The weather was perfect (O.K., it was a little windy) and the turnout was
fantastic. We had 51 of the 52 players who were signed up come to our return
to City Park golf (shame, shame on Kevin Moore). It was good to get back to
"The Park", which I felt was in pretty good condition, especially if you
remember what it used to be like. I want to sincerely thank everyone who came
out and made this tournament a success. Our tee times ran like clockwork, and
even with the heavy play on the course, everyone was able to finish in a
reasonable time. Our large turnout already has Don Tillar, the Director of
Golf at City Park, offering us a better deal to come back! And I thought that
a $35 tournament fee was great! I really feel that if we can have good turnouts
each month it will allow us to negotiate better deals with the courses we play.
Finishing in the money from the blue tees were: Brett Bourgeois, Jesse Aguilar,
Mike Brydon, Jerry Logreco, and Mike Willem. Cashing in from the white tees were:
Paul Gunn, Jimmy Snoody, Tom DuBose, John Wyatt, Joe Havrda, and Fred Walker.
Congratulations to all of you. We ended up with 23 players from the blue tees
and 28 players from the white tees.
Closest to the hole winner ($25) was Jim McCormick, who cried like a baby about
his 5 handicap, but still managed to collect some money!
50/50 winning tickets were:
1st place ($64) ticket #348921 Kevin Broussard
2nd place ($38) ticket #348927 Mike Willem
3rd place ($26) ticket #348919
If you have either the 1st or 3rd place ticket, contact me and hold onto your
ticket and we will get your money to you.
I am trying to get some different golf courses for us to play and have some
different tournament formats. The play from two different tees seemed to be
well accepted, and I will try this again. I know that it seems that I am
flying by the seat of my pants sometimes, but please be patient and I think
you will enjoy the ride. Today I allowed some people to switch tees before
starting play, but I will not allow this in the future as prize distribution
is determined by the number of people in each flight. I adjusted the payouts
to 5 spots for the blue tees and 6 spots for the white tees due to the people
switching flights, and ending up with more people in the blue flight and less
people in the white flight than was originally planned. For those of you who
play in the $10 Game, when we use two different tees, the $10 Game will
ALWAYS be played from the longest tees we are playing, so if you want to play
in the $10 Game, then sign up for those tees.
After today, I am interested in setting up another tournament at City Park.
I would welcome input from our members on going back to "The Park", as well
as playing from different tees, or adding different courses. I would also
like to know what is the highest green fees people would be interested in
paying for our tournaments, as Carter Plantation and Oak Harbor are both
interested in our business, but are a little more expensive than Willowdale,
Stonebridge, Colonial, and City Park.
Next week's Board Meeting will start plans for the annual crayfish boil,
and I will be passing this information along as it becomes available.
Next month's tournament is at Carter Plantation, one of the nicest courses
in our general area. Carter is just outside of Hammond, in Springfield, LA.
For those of you who have not played there, I encourage you to join us March
21st. I think it will be a real treat for you, and is a good bargain at $59
green fees on the weekend.
Mike Flanagan thought he could avoid the baseball bat beating by not playing
this month, but I have the bat and am saving it for him.
If someone lost a Callaway Fusion hybrid head cover (#3) at City Park, it
was turned in and I have it.
Have a Happy Mardi Gras season, and I hope to see you all next month at
Carter Plantation.
Next time any of you see George North, please stop him and say "Thanks"
for all of the work he is doing pro bono on our website. He is a great help
to me, and a great asset for our club, although all of his work may be
affecting his golf from what I see with this month's results.
Tournament results are posted below and attached to this email.
